Jean Luc Bigord is an artist and designer born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, who migrated to New York in 1970. From an early age he took a keen interest in drawing and painting. His interest in the arts was cultivated while in high school, where he had opportunities to display his talents. In 1983, his design was chosen for the senior t-shirt. Impressed with his work, the principal of Prospect High School with his first solo exhibition. In 1984, he was selected to study painting and drawing at Cooper Union in a special scholarship program. He graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1988, where he specialized in accessory design.
He developed his own style by studying drawings and paintings of French neoclassical artists like Jean August Dominique Ingres and Jean Leon Jerome. In his paintings he uses a simple palette of color to achieve the illusion of a realistic look of a three dimensional image. Over the years, Bigord has been commissioned to paint portraits and murals. His work can also be found in many private collections.
